Well, at least digitally. We don’t give live tours of the Mill (too busy making socks), so here’s the next best thing.

In 1978, Marc Cabot founded Cabot Hosiery Mills and began knitting socks in Northfield, VT. Fast forward to 2004, his son Ric stepped up to start Darn Tough. Then in 2021, we added a second Mill in Waterbury.

The Knitting Room

Listen to the whir of needles. Smell the rich Merino Wool yarns. If there’s a center of the sock universe, it’s here.

Master Tech Office

Enter the sock wizards’ lair, where our knitting and machinery experts protect the deepest secrets of sock lore.

Quality Control

Next up is the quality area. Here we keep the gold standard samples that all other socks are measured against.

Darn Tough University

This is where we train our knitters. It’s a special skill, running a knitting machine with hundreds of needles. And that’s just one part of the process.

Air Handling

Let’s walk to the back corner; it’s worth a trip to see the “lint sausage.” Excess yarn clippings get collected here before getting shipped to our partner Brickle for upcycling.

On our way to the finishing area, we’ll pass raw materials storage. You know, where we keep the yarn. The finest fibers from around the world.

Wash & Dry

Yep, we wash every pair. These big machines allow us to cut down on energy and water usage while helping us dial in the fit of every sock.

Boarding

This is where we transform each sock to its final sock shape. It’s a hot job, but someone’s gotta do it.

Packaging

Every pair of socks is hand-held by real people with hawk-eye vision for quality. Here, every good pair gets packaged and placed on a conveyor to shipping.

Shipping

Packaged socks stack neatly into boxes, which stack neatly onto crates, and then ship out. This is also where we receive all our mail, including your warranty socks, love letters, wedding invites, and dog pics.

Yep, That’s It

We didn’t hide any secret formulas or hidden laboratories. If there’s any special sauce, it’s the people who put their love and attention into each pair of socks.
